Through Green Europe by Train– Season 3 of the RTS Documentary Series

The third season of Green Europe, a documentary series supported by the project, is now airing under the title . The new season broadcasts every Saturday on the starting from This season focuses on sustainable travel by train. The RTS Environmental Programme team visited Luxembourg, Leuven, Essen, Nijmegen, Hamburg, Copenhagen, and Malmö—European cities recognised for their innovative approaches to sustainability and climate action.

Luxembourg became the first country to offer free public transportation in 2020, promoting the use of trains, buses, and trams.

Leuven, Belgium, is known for its urban greening projects and climate-resilient infrastructure. Citizen participation plays a central role in decisions about bike lanes, pedestrian zones, and green spaces.

Essen, Germany, has transformed from one of Europe’s most polluted cities into a green capital. Its former mining complex, , is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands, is also one of its most environmentally conscious. A youthful, dynamic university town, it has been named Europe’s top city for students and young people.

 Hamburg, a vibrant cultural hub, is developing HafenCity, Europe’s largest riverfront urban development project—guided by sustainable urban planning.

Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, is striving to become the first carbon-neutral city in the world, with major investments in cycling infrastructure and green technologies.

Malmo, Sweden, actively involves residents in environmental decision-making and offers free consultations to help citizens and businesses improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.

Previous seasons, each of 7 episodes:

Season 1 explored top environmental solutions in Slovenia, Austria and France.

In the season 2, journalist and author Dragana Živojnović investigated biodiversity conservation and environmental protection in Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
